Without a formal narrative, Les Sylphides, to the music of Frédéric Chopin, is more aptly described as a 'romantic reverie', with white clad sylphs dancing in the moonlight. The original choreography was by Mikhail Fokine. The work fully identified as 'Les Sylphides' was premiered by Diaghilev and Ballets Russes in 1909 with Tamara Karsavina as soloist along with Vaslav Nijinsky as the poet/dreamer in search of an ideal.
