'Crébillon fils - Tanzai et Néadarné' illustrated by PAUL-ÉMILE BÉCAT (Paul Emile Becat) WITH 15 ORIGINAL DRYPOINT ETCHINGS IN COLOURS WITH AN ADDITIONAL SUITE OF THE ETCHINGS, EACH ON THEIR SEPARATE LOOSE SHEET WITHIN THEIR OWN SLEEVE, WITH REMARQUES IN NOIR.
WITH TWO ADDITIONAL PLANCHES REFUSÉES, ONE IN SANGUIN AND THE OTHER IN NOIR (this is rare as there is usually only the sanguin).
Printed on Rives vellum. Number 144 of the 175 printed as described above. Total edition was 429.
Published by Editions Eryx 1950. The complete text of the edition princeps 1734.
Covers in blue with gold lettering
Very good condition. Dryoints are excellent. Some fading to the outside case and to the main spine and some scuffing to the outside case.
These drypoints are a wonderful showcase for Becat's etching work within a beautifully produced collector's edition. One of the greatest illustrators in magnificent form. 17 drypoint etchings in all and the 'planche refusée' which is in versions both sanguin and noir and is one of his most tenderly sensual and romantic images (the main image shown here).
