This etching is based on his illustrations for the Mandrake, limited edition publication of the great symbolist novel Salammbo by Gustave Flaubert (published 1930). We also have available original works that were used as illustrations for the publication.

Mackey was an acclaimed official war artist in the first world war and afterwards a highly respected artist of paintings, prints and illustrations. His work is in the permanent collections of the Imperial War Museum and the Royal Academy.
