Generally very good condition. Slight and very small crease to top left hand corner and only just within the image area. This very same image with the addition of colour was used as the frontispiece for the Mandrake limited edition publication of the great symbolist novel Salammbo by Gustave Flaubert (published 1930).

Mackey was an acclaimed official war artist in the first world war and afterwards a highly respected artist of paintings, prints and illustrations. His work is in the permanent collections of the Imperial War Museum and the Royal Academy.
