A classic of literary erotica and often decribed as Louys’ masterwork.

This limited collectors edition:  A L’enseigne du chat pour chat.   (c.1945)

193 pages on watermarked Lana vellum

This one numbered 244 of an unknown edition  (probably 500)

The sixteen illustrations by Jean Berque are each to its own page and presented in a slipcase within the back cover. Each sheet is 28cm X 23cm.

These coloured illustrations which are tremendously free and highly erotic have variously been described as – copper engravings, plates, and etchings. We have also considered the possibilty of them being lithographs (from the stone). Though the medium is at present unclear, they constitute a remarkably powerful, rare and very individualistic set of erotic works. The art deco influence is also clear.
